Blog #15 Servants in a Servant-Church…

APRIL/MAY CLASS: The last two months of formation were focused on the study of Catholic Sexual Morality teaching.  We learned how to better understand, dialogue and respond to the many cultural challenges to the Christian view of sexuality.  The course discussed how many sexual images appear in our society, but it is rare to find a coherent discussion on the meaning and purpose of human sexuality.  The course examined God’s design for married love according to the teachings of the Catholic Church.

FORMATION COMPLETION: Our May class completes our 5th year of academics, prayer and spiritual discernment. Although, this is the end of the Deacon Formation, I think things are just getting started.  Since a Deacon is a sacramental sign of service through various ministries in a servant-church, there will be more and more ways to answer God’s call of service in the years to come.

RETREAT: In April, we completed a weeklong class retreat at Toddhall Retreat Center in Columbia, Illinois.  It was a great time to reflect on the 5 years of formation and ponder the responsibility and importance of being called to the Ministry of Deacon.
