NOVEMBER CLASS — Pastoral counseling was the topic for November. Our instructor reminded us that many people have had at least one public speaking class, but very few people have had a listening class. So, we did a lot of team exercises that encouraged listening skills. A key skill we focused on was the power of being present to another person. We focused on ways to remove the many distractions that interrupt our relationships and daily lives. In addition, we spent time learning how to empathize and better understand what it is like to walk in the other persons shoes. Ultimately, a big take away for me is the need to be able to dialogue with people in a delicate but purposeful manner on serious issues.
FORMATION MILESTONE — We were formally instituted as Lectors(Reader of Scripture) by Bishop McGovern. The Bishop instructed us specifically, “Take this book of holy scripture and be faithful in handing on the word of God, so that it may grow strong in the hearts of his people.” This day was an important progress marker in our formation, but more importantly an intense reminder of the responsibility of proclaiming scripture faithfully. Pictures are below.
CLASS LIST — I received some feedback that it would be great to see a list of the formation classes that have already been completed and what classes remain. So, I added an abbreviated course list for the 5 year formation program. Click Here to check out the page.
NEXT POST — For December, we will continue with Part II of Pastoral Counseling. Check out the Home Page for more details about this Blog and contact information. I look forward to sharing more about this journey and discoveries along the way. Thanks for reading my post and have a Merry Christmas!!!🎄🎁🎄
