SEPTEMBER CLASS — For September’s Deacon formation class, the topic was Christology or the understanding of the person and saving deeds of Jesus Christ. The instructor began class asking each of us to describe whom Jesus Christ is to us. We had a variety of answers that were similar, but, unique based upon our personal journeys. Of course, it is hard to summarize Jesus who had such an explosive impact on human history. So, for our class focus, we discussed the many prominent people that have attempted to define Jesus. Specifically, we explored insights from influential theologians like Anselem of Canterbury, Thomas Aquinas, and Martin Luther. Each of them added more development to Jesus’s identity. For my discovery, I see the importance of not being static in my beliefs and to practice continuous learning to seek truth.
ITALY JOURNEY — For a writing assignment, we are to complete a paper on our own understanding of Jesus. Fortunately, my sister Renee and I just returned from two week trip to Assisi and Rome, Italy. It was a privilege to visit the home of great witnesses to Jesus like Saint Frances and Saint Clare, that helped with my assignment and overall spiritual journey. Renee and I both highly recommend a visit to Assisi and we plan to return! The landscape, history, and people come together in a unique way to intensify thought and meditation. A few pictures from our trip are below.
NEXT POST — Next month, we will be learning about Jesus’s Mother or Mariology. Check out the Home page for more details about me and contact information. I look forward to sharing more about this journey and discoveries along the way. Thanks for checking out my post!
